Reducing power consumption of high-power TV transmitters through transition to klystrodes
Abstract
The continued use of klystrons in television transmitters is shown to be impractical due to their failure to meet modern energy efficiency requirements. It is proposed to replace klystrons with output powers of 5 kW and 20 kW by more compact and efficient klystrodes, while maintaining the required output power and high reliability. This transition could save approximately 3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually in Ukraine. The use of klystrodes in TV transmitters will also ensure preservation of territorial coverage without the need to construct and commission additional television transmission centers.
