Method of electric arc reduction of silicon
Keywords:
silicon dioxide, zinc, electric arc reduction
Abstract
A method has been developed and tested for electric arc reduction of silicon from silicon dioxide, followed by chemical washing of the crystals. The method makes it possible to obtain silicon with a purity of 99.993 wt.% and ensures production at a cost of 10–15 USD/kg due to reduced contamination from the raw material, lower energy consumption and equipment size, as well as fewer purification stages.
