Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study on the heat transfer characteristics of two heat sinks based on miniature heat pipes (MHPs) for cooling personal computer components. It is shown that heat sinks with Ø 4 mm MHPs filled with ethanol in the low heat flux range (up to 50 W) have lower thermal resistance than heat sinks with Ø 6 mm MTs (water as the heat transfer fluid). The comparative specific mass characteristics of heat sinks with MHPs and with mesh-wire fins are examined. It is shown that heat sinks with MHPs can be used for cooling high-power electronic microcircuits.
